Work Hours Calculator

Enter start and end times and unpaid breaks for each day to add up your weekly hours, with decimal totals, overtime over 40 hours and gross pay.

How to calculate hours worked

  1. For each day, subtract the start time from the end time. If the shift ends after midnight, add 24 hours.
  2. Subtract unpaid breaks.
  3. Add up every day, then convert minutes to decimal hours by dividing by 60.

Enter times like 9:00, 17:30 or 5:30 pm. Times without am or pm are read as a 24-hour clock.

Worked example

Working 9:00 to 17:30 with a 30-minute unpaid lunch is 8 hours a day. Five days add up to 40 hours. At $20 an hour that is $800 of gross pay.

Overtime is shown at 1.5× for hours over the weekly threshold, the US federal rule for non-exempt employees. Some states also have daily overtime rules.
