Time and a Half Calculator

Enter your hourly rate and hours to find your time and a half (or double time) rate, your overtime pay and your total gross pay for the week.

How to calculate time and a half

Time and a half rate = hourly rate × 1.5 Overtime pay = time and a half rate × overtime hours

Worked example

You earn $22 an hour and work 46 hours in a week. The first 40 hours pay 40 × $22 = $880. Your overtime rate is $22 × 1.5 = $33 an hour, so 6 overtime hours pay $198. Total gross pay: $1,078.

When does overtime apply?

Under the US Fair Labor Standards Act, non-exempt employees must be paid at least time and a half for hours worked over 40 in a workweek. Some states add daily overtime rules; for example, California generally requires overtime after 8 hours in a day and double time after 12.
