Add Time Calculator
Add hours and minutes to a start time, or subtract them, to find the resulting clock time and whether it falls on the next or previous day.
How to add time
- Add the hours to the hours and the minutes to the minutes.
- If the minutes reach 60 or more, subtract 60 and carry 1 hour.
- If the hours pass 24 (or 12 on a 12-hour clock), the result is on the next day.
Worked example
9:45 AM plus 3 hours 30 minutes: 45 + 30 = 75 minutes, which is 1 hour 15 minutes. 9 + 3 + 1 = 13 hours, so the result is 1:15 PM.
Subtracting time
To subtract, borrow 60 minutes from the hours when the minutes would go below zero. For example, 2:10 PM minus 45 minutes is 1:25 PM. Going back past midnight gives a time on the previous day.
