Race Pace Calculator
Enter a race distance and finish time to find your pace per mile and per kilometer, your average speed and the split times along the way.
How to calculate running pace
Pace = finish time ÷ distance Speed = distance ÷ time
Convert the time to minutes or seconds first. 1 mile = 1.609 km, a half marathon is 21.0975 km (13.1 miles) and a marathon is 42.195 km (26.2 miles).
Worked example
A 5K in 25:00 is 25 minutes ÷ 5 km = 5:00 per km. 5 km is 3.107 miles, so the pace is 25 ÷ 3.107 = 8:03 per mile, an average speed of 7.46 mph.

Frequently asked questions
What is a good 5K time?
It depends on age and experience. Many recreational runners finish between 25 and 35 minutes.
How do I convert pace per km to pace per mile?
Multiply the pace per km by 1.609. A 5:00/km pace is about 8:03 per mile.
What pace do I need for a sub-2-hour half marathon?
About 9:09 per mile, or 5:41 per km.
Should I run even splits?
Even or slightly negative splits, running the second half a little faster, are generally the most efficient.
