NPS Calculator
Calculate your Net Promoter Score from counts of promoters, passives and detractors, or by pasting a list of 0 to 10 survey scores.
How NPS is calculated
NPS = % promoters − % detractors
Respondents answer how likely they are to recommend you on a 0–10 scale. Scores of 9–10 are promoters, 7–8 are passives and 0–6 are detractors. Passives count toward the total but not the score.
Worked example
120 promoters, 50 passives and 30 detractors make 200 responses: 60% promoters minus 15% detractors gives an NPS of 45.
Reading your score
| NPS | General view |
|---|---|
| Below 0 | More detractors than promoters |
| 0–30 | Good |
| 30–70 | Great |
| Above 70 | Excellent |
Frequently asked questions
What is a good NPS?
Anything above 0 means more promoters than detractors. Benchmarks vary a lot by industry.
Can NPS be negative?
Yes. It ranges from −100 (all detractors) to +100 (all promoters).
Why are passives ignored?
They count in the total number of responses but are neither added nor subtracted.
How many responses do I need?
More is better. With small samples the score can swing a lot from one response.
