Dividend Calculator
Enter the share price, the annual dividend per share and the number of shares to find the dividend yield and the income you would receive.
Dividend yield formula
Dividend yield = annual dividend per share ÷ share price × 100 Annual income = annual dividend per share × shares
Worked example
A stock priced at $50 that pays $2.00 a year has a yield of 4%. Owning 100 shares pays $200 a year, or $50 a quarter.
Things to keep in mind
- Dividends are not guaranteed and can be cut.
- A very high yield can be a sign that the price has fallen because of problems.
- Dividends may be taxed; qualified and ordinary dividends are taxed differently in the US.

Frequently asked questions
How do I find the annual dividend?
Multiply the most recent quarterly dividend by 4, or add up the last 12 months of payments.
What is yield on cost?
Your annual dividend divided by the price you paid, rather than today’s price.
Why does dividend yield change?
Because the share price moves every day, while the dividend usually changes only a few times a year.
Is a higher yield always better?
Not necessarily. Sustainability of the dividend and total return matter too.
